Black River Gorges National Park Mauritius – For a Slice of the Heavenly Nature

New morning and new plans- Mauritius was treating us real good. The view from our hotel suite verandah was breathtaking and waking up to great sounds and visuals was fast becoming very addictive. This day was reserved for the sightseeing at the Black River Gorges National Park Mauritius which had a reputation of enthralling the tourists who come to see the gorges and the natural surroundings that the area entails. The kids no longer required persuasion for getting up in time or for getting ready for the sightseeing activities because somehow they had also sensed that since there was so much to see in Mauritius, they would have to curtail on their sleep to be on time for each schedule. But still it was not until 12 that all of us got ready. Considering the time it seemed prudent to eat lunch and then proceed.

The National Park that we were visiting was quite a picnic spot for locals and tourists and likewise, we too carried our little hamper which had some eatables and drinks. We were soon in the hilly areas and moving towards the south-western part of Mauritius. The park is known to cover an area of 67.54 kilometer square and comprises of three sections- the lowland forests which has a dry climate, the marshy heath land and an upland forest. For research activities, there are field stations in the park which continues the important work of progress through research about the flora fauna and the animals found in this park.

A couple of information centres are also stationed in the Black River Gorges National Park Mauritius to felicitate the visitors and has a plethora of information about the endemic species of plants and the animals that can be found here. Some of the better known animals found in the park are the famous Mauritian flying fox, Mauritius bulbul, the cuckoo-shrike, the Mauritius kestrel and the pink pigeon among innumerable others. We made use of our hamper and the treats were super so it was decided that we would take them again with us the next day when we would go to the Ganga Talao.
